Aleksander's Story

As a child, Aleksander was subjected to continual sexual abuse by his much loved and trusted uncle. At the time, Aleksander lacked the understanding to comprehend the wrongdoing; he believed his uncle’s actions to be acts of care and affection – a belief that was reinforced by his mental abuse and manipulation. He would take Aleksander on days out, buying him sweets and toys, and would take advantage of any opportunity to babysit him, even continuing to sexually abuse Aleksander at his house when his mother was in hospital with a serious illness.

As he grew into a teenager, the weight of his uncle’s abuse became increasingly burdensome. Confusion and shame clouded his perception of their relationship, leaving him unable to fully grasp the gravity of the situation. It wasn’t until years later, after seeking professional help, that Aleksander began to confront the trauma of his past and the impact that it had on his childhood.

With the guidance of our specialist counsellors, Aleksander found closure through his journey of healing and self-discovery. With each session, he was able to gain further clarity and validation regarding his experiences and emotions, gradually allowing him to untangle the web of lies and manipulation that had obscured him understanding of the truth for so much of his life.

Through his work with SARAC, Aleksander has been able to come to terms with his trauma and is now learning to form healthy adult relationships, no longer shackled by the chains of his uncle’s abuse.
